It worked once. Then it stopped working. Most parents who call here are not looking for a trophy. They are looking for their kid to stop feeling helpless.
Something happens at school and he doesn't know what to do with his hands, his voice or his body. That reaction is trainable.
School lets out and the tablet comes on. He needs a place to be tired, present and around other kids his age.
Confidence doesn't come from being told he's great. It comes from doing something hard, on his own, twice a week.
Most situations a kid runs into never needed a punch. They needed him to stay calm and stay in control.
That is what Jiu-Jitsu trains. How to handle someone bigger without hurting them and without getting hurt. It is the reason first responders and military families in San Antonio have trained on these mats since 2006.
One of our adult students is a child psychologist who works with aggressive kids. When a 14 year old came at her, she controlled him safely on the ground. Nobody got a scratch. That is the skill we teach.
Who is on the mat
Your child is not handed off to a teenage assistant. Every class at this academy is led by a black belt professor. No exceptions.
No surprises, no pressure, nothing to sign at the door.
Choose a class time that fits your week. It takes under a minute.
Arrive ten minutes before. T-shirt and shorts is all he needs. We provide everything else.
He trains with kids his own age and size. You stay in the room the whole time.
We talk after class. If it's a fit, we'll show you the options. If it isn't, no hard feelings.
Kids and teens train in separate classes, back to back. Your 6 year old is never on the mat with a 16 year old.
Technique, drilling and belt progression built for kids. Discipline, uniform and mat rules from day one.
Teens train the real curriculum at a teen pace. Conditioning, self-defense and competition if they want it.
Her son looks forward to every class, with "positive growth in his confidence, focus, and discipline, both on and off the mats."
She writes that "the instructors are patient and make the drills fun, which keeps my child excited" to learn.
His daughter loves training here. In his words, "they do amazing with the kids in both discipline and quality instruction."
Two years in with her daughter, she says "she's improved so much and is very confident in herself."
Her son started at three and a half years old and "he's become so much more confident," she writes.
She describes her son coming out of his shell, with "self worth and confidence improved dramatically."
Perfect. Shy kids do better in the group than one on one. Within three classes he'll know names and he'll have a partner waiting for him.
Four is exactly where we start. Parents have brought kids in at three and a half. The class is built around movement and games, not drilling.
Half the room started the same way. Nobody is behind on day one.
Jiu-Jitsu has no striking. Kids train with partners their own size, on matted floor, supervised by a black belt professor the entire class.
For the free trial, a t-shirt and shorts. If you enroll, the uniform is part of the starter package.
